Sports Prosthetics FAQs
Questions Athletes Ask Us
How long does it take to get a sports prosthetic?
Days, not months. We fabricate on-site in our labs, so once we complete your consultation and test fitting, you’re typically training with your new sports prosthetic within a week or two.
Can I use one prosthetic for multiple sports?
Depends on the sports. Some athletes prefer multi-sport prosthetics for gym, casual activities, and light sports. Others need sport-specific limbs for optimal performance. We’ll help you figure out what works for your activities and budget.
Will insurance cover a sports prosthetic?
Many insurance plans cover athletic prosthetics when they’re deemed medically necessary for maintaining an active lifestyle. We handle all the paperwork and appeals to maximize your coverage.
What sports can I do with a prosthetic limb?
Basically, all of them. We’ve built prosthetics for running, swimming, cycling, basketball, tennis, golf, skiing, rock climbing, and more. If you want to do it, we’ll figure out how to make it work.
How durable are sports prosthetics?
Built to take a beating. Carbon fiber composites handle high-impact activities. Waterproof models withstand pool chemicals and salt water. That said, high-performance sports put more stress on prosthetics than daily wear, so expect more frequent maintenance.
Can I switch between my daily prosthetic and sports limb?
Yes. We can build quick-release systems that let you swap prosthetics in under a minute. Many athletes keep their daily prosthetic for work and errands, then switch to their sports limb for training.
Do you work with adaptive sports programs?
Absolutely. We’ve worked with athletes in adaptive sports leagues, Paralympic training programs, and recreational adaptive sports organizations.
What if my sports prosthetic breaks?
We offer same-day emergency repairs for our clients. If you’re one of our athletes and your prosthetic fails before a competition, we’ll do whatever it takes to get you competing.
